Meet & Greet was initially started on the first Friday of January 2017.

It is held at Shalford Village Hall every first Friday of the month between the hours of 11.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.

A light buffet lunch is provided consisting of plain food – sandwiches (egg, cheese, ham, chicken etc), savouries such as sausage rolls and quiche plus, of course, the obligatory home-made cakes all washed down by tea, coffee, or cold drinks.

A donation box is left out amongst the food as the cost of the food and hire of the hall is covered by the donations received on the day. This is to ensure that the function can continue in the future.

We also provide playing cards and board games for those that wish to play and Surprisingly some months everyone is playing a game and other months there is the continue hum of chatter – it changes month on month.

At Christmas we again offer a buffet lunch but buy food to place on a plate to eat and sit at a table. We decorate the tables and hall, provide a glass of wine or cold drink together with festive music and a free raffle. Coming at the beginning of December, it gets people in the festive mood.

Until Covid 2020 hit, our numbers had increased month on month. We started in 2017 with approximately 10 people and we have increased our group to a nucleus of nearer 60 with approximately 35+ attending every month.

The knock on effects of holding Meet & Greet in the village has been amazing. Comment has been made regarding how individuals now know their neighbours when walking around the village. Friends and contacts have been made and people have even teamed up to play musical instruments together.

SHALFORD PARISH COUNCIL

Members of the Council are hereby summoned to attend a meeting to be held at Shalford Village Hall on the Third Wednesday of each month commencing at 7:30pm for the purpose of transacting Shalford Parish Council business:

(excluding the months of August & January)

 The meeting will be open to the public unless the Council directs otherwise.

We are a small group of local people who meet once a month in Shalford Village Hall. If you are interested in local History, and would like to join the Association, please contact the Chair,
Barbara Mavis on 01371 851519 or the Secretary Sally Welsh smwelsh1@btinternet.com. Once a year, in April, we ask members for a small annual Membership Subscription of £10, which is used to cover the cost of hiring the Village Hall annex room for our monthly meetings.

Meeting dates are 4th Tuesday of each month. We meet at 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm at The George public house in The Street Shalford during the winter months, summer months the meeting starts at 2.30 pm.
